children’s book week

November 12-18 is Children’s Book Week! Here are a few ways you can celebrate with your family:

  • Make a bookmark with homemade charms. (For more bookmark ideas, go here.)
  • Have a party, talk about your favorite stories, and serve food and drink featured in different books.
  • Write your own children’s book together. A few story starters can be found here.
  • If you don’t already have a regular read-aloud time with your children, now is a great time to start!
  • Go to a program at your local library together.
  • Read a story set in another country and serve a meal, play a game, and make a craft relating to that country and culture.
  • Listen to a book on CD together, or find an audiobook on LibriVox, AudioBooksforFree, or Storynory.
  • Dress up as your favorite children’s book character.
  • Help children write a fan letter to their favorite children’s book author or illustrator. (I still have an autographed Garfield cartoon from Jim Davis that I received way back when!)
  • Find lesson plans and more ideas at Education World.
