educational videos for preschoolers

The American Academy of Pediatrics does not recommend that children watch television until age 3 until more research is done on TV’s effects. However, if you are like most parents and do allow your young preschoolers to watch educational DVDs, take a look at the Preschool Prep Company’s offerings.

I’ve checked out Meet the Shapes, Meet the Colors, and Meet the Numbers from our library, and my 2-year-old can’t get enough of them! She has started pointing out circles and counting (granted, not consecutively; she especially likes the numbers 8 and 10). We previously started working on color recognition, and the color video has also helped with that.

The videos are cute and simple, using animated letters, numbers, shapes, and words and a lot of repetition. You can see demos of all the videos here.
